Board of Directors Meeting

Board Members Present: Hank Jaeckel, Denise Backstrom, T. O. Sheffield, Ima Beam, Otho Stevens, Debbie Morris, Sammie Swinney, Jack Goodman.

Directors Absent: Ruth Jaeckel, Briggs Massey, Robert Shinn.

Members/guests present: Barbara Fournie, Margi Koranek, Louise Plodinec.

I President Hank Jaeckel called the meeting to order at 1:25 pm

II Jack Goodman read the minutes from the 11/18/01 meeting. Minutes were approved with no additions or corrections.

III Treasurer’s Report [Sammie Swinney] Balance on hand is $3476.62

IV President’s Remarks:

A. Inventory is now finished. Thanks to Charles Smith

B. President announced the nominating Committee which is composed of Debbie Morris, [chair person], T.O Sheffield, and Barbara Fournie

C. President announced that committee reports are due at the annual meeting.

D. President requested that all Board members finish their job descriptions. They will be helpful for the nominating committee.

E. Announced on April 6th workshop by Diane Stephenson, Mid South District Consultant.

There was discussion concerning an appropriate time of day for the workshop.

There was also discussion about topics or items that would be most beneficial for the participants. Items/Topics were as follows:

1.Conflict Resolutions 2. Religious Education 3.Leadership Development 4. Burn out

5.Promoting UU in Tupelo area.

F. There was a discussion on a possible Bylaw change concerning non members of the UU Fellowship of Tupelo serving on committees. There was not enough support among the Board members for the change. There was no motion.

G. There was a request again for ideas/help on our banner. See Denise Backstrom if interested in helping.

H. Up coming events:

2. Mid South District Church Basic Conf. Montgomery, Al. 3/23/02

3. UU Fellowship Annual meeting with election of officers 5/19/02

4. General Assembly Quebec City, Quebec June 02

V Committee Reports:

A. Sunday Service [Ima Beam]

1. March 3 Discussion Led by Luther Brackeen

2. March 17 Service by Debbie Shinn

3.April 7 Diane Stephenson, guest speaker

4. April 21 Dr. Marjorie Holland, guest speaker

B. Communications [Robert Shinn] not attending.

President stated that chairman is interested in statewide web site for Ms. UU.

C. Financial Planning [Otho Stevens]

Report working on budget. Request Directors wishing to be included in budget to get him the appropriate information. Proposed budget will be ready by the 3rd Sunday in April-4/21/02. The committee is planning a cookout pledge drive on Saturday April 20 D. Membership [T.O. Sheffield] No report

There was discussion concerning getting the UU Fellowship added to list of churches given to "New Comers"to North Ms

E .Social [Briggs Massey] Not attending

F. Structure/By Laws [Debbie Morris]

G. Religious Education [Ruth Jaeckel] Not attending

Discussion centered around the impromptu attendance of children to the adult Service. There was concern that this may be a distraction to the Service leader and those attending the Service.
